A
New Public Policy Journal
Connecting People and Ideas
in the Global Society
The
internet is a global medium that speeds the task of blending new and old
information connecting otherwise isolated ideas about public policy
dealing with the triangle of genes, environment and ethics. This journal
for decision makers, already nicknamed GEE!, will connect
these ideas, which are at the heart of social and political decisions made
each day by governments and industries about “the gene”, how to use
genetic information to prevent and treat disease, how and to whom benefits
will be distributed, who should be genetically-tested, and how research
subjects, patients, workers and society itself will be protected.
Behind these decisions are the connections
between heredity, environment, the internal milieu created by lifestyle
and emotion, and the great molders of mind: human values.
In the past, ignoring how these realities were
connected to each other and to political forces led to painful mistakes.
To help prevent repetition of this history, each new issue of GEE!
will update and expand connecting information previously published.
Our Contributing Editors and guest writers, will
continuously report what is happening in the web of science and politics
in their part of the world, their walk of life, and their own lives and
work.
And yes, of course, we will report on what we and
our Institute partners are doing. We need your support to fulfill our
mission.
This is an experiment. All of us in the
Institute, on the editorial board and our guest writers are
volunteers. Join us! Help GEE! grow in size and coverage.
How well we succeed will be measured by how well we connect people and
ideas in our global society.
